Welcome back to the Edmonton business coach YouTube channel my name is Karen and Trevor, and today we’re going to talk to you about five reasons why business owners hate marketing. Gary Vaynerchuk says, “If your organization’s intentions transcend the mere act of selling a product or service, and it is brave enough to expose its heart and soul, people will respond. They will connect. They will like you. They will talk. They will buy.”

. Woo. He’s right. 90% of searchers haven’t made their mind up about a brand before starting their search that’s coming from status labs. 2018 business owners and consumers alike have a love hate relationship with marketing. On one hand, business owners need to tell their brand story and present it to the public and on the other hand until the last thing that they want to do. So let’s get into these five reasons why business owners hate marketing.

All right. I’ll start with number one. I guess business owners aren’t good at writing copy. Yeah, that’s true. Yeah. We just did a whole video on this. So go back and check out that video as well after this and you’ll see why it’s a lot of it. We’ll seed in depth why, but we’ll give you kind of an overview.

Writing good copy is very hard. It’s not, it’s not easy. It’s an art in itself.

And you know when you’ve read good copy and you know when you read, not good copy, even writing content for your webpage, talking about your business or describing your Edmonton business coach team members, company bio, all that sort of stuff. It is not something that is fun to do for most people because think about when you’re back in school, okay, and you got a writing assignment or a book report we had. Those were the things that people waited until like the last day. Then they quickly blurted things out and they got like a c or a d on it, right? People hate writing, right Edmonton business coach? So when it comes in, it doesn’t change when you become a business owner. Most people either hate writing because they’re just not good at it. It’s hard. You can think about what you want to say and it sounds really great in your mind, but then when you go to either speak it or write it out, it’s just not there the same way. There’s not organized in the same fashion, so it’s, it’s actually kind of challenging. So that’s one reason why business owners absolutely hate marketing.

Number two, business owners, they say they don’t have the time for I get it. Business is challenging and there’s a lot of things that need to be done on a day to day basis in your business in order to keep it running smoothly. But if you don’t make time for your marketing, then what’s going to happen is you’re going to be running into a drought or you’ll have ups and downs. Edmonton business coach, I’ve seen this happen a lot of times with different building trends, so they started marketing, they’re calling people, they’re talking to people there, you know, putting out advertisements and they get busy. Then once they have a few jobs, they work on those jobs. They stopped marketing, they started working, they work, work, work, work, work, work, work, get to the end into those jobs and then nothing that the pipeline’s empty, pipeline’s empty, no more jobs.

So then they have to, you know, trying to get this ball rolling again. So then they call, call, call, call, call, do whatever they can. If they know for marketing and then they get a couple of jobs and the cycle starts over. What Edmonton business coach is proposing, is that marketing has done continuously automated to some degree so that you are always going through the feast and famine cycle. Once numbers are true, it’s not other than the next one.

Number three, there isn’t, this owners can’t keep up with changing trends in social media. Yes. This is one thing that business owners just do not understand and nor should they, right. Because things are changing all the time. And you know, we talked to 10 marketers and you’ll get 10 different ideas on how to do it the best way. It’s not because of we invented because it’s a tried and true method that we are adopting and incorporating into our business because we know it works. We’ve seen the results not just with our business but with our partner’s business and dozens of other ones that are using the same methodology. So business owners, they just, they have a hard time because they’re working on focusing there on their business, helping customers and if they also have to learn how to create a content, do you know, learn SEO or follow the ever changing trends in social media, they’ll never get to working on their business. So, um, they, they hate it for that reason. They, they feel like out of control Edmonton business coach. That should be the point that you realized you need to outsource and not date yourself.

Number four, business owners think marketing is too costly.

That’s a constant. I like it to the quote that Henry Ford said. Somebody who tries to save money by stopping advertising. He’s like, someone tried to save time, by stopping his watch. It’s just not going to happen. No. Sales and marketing is the lifeblood of your business. If you are not promoting your product, your services, and your business to your ideal and likely buyer, then nobody’s going to buy from me. If they’re not applying, it means you’re not working and if you’re not working then it means hard times. Yeah Edmonton business coach. If you think about that clock when you’re stopping the clock, cause you want to save time when you know that doesn’t actually happen.

Okay. If you stop advertising, people are still searching online just like that clock is still moving. You know the stats say there aren’t a searching online and you take yourself out of that equation lost out completely. That’s right. Yeah. Edmonton business coach, marketing is not a cost. Marketing is an investment. It’s a long term investment that when done properly it pays dividends and then once the ball is rolling, it’s contains keep it wrong. That’s right. Yeah.

Okay. The last one, number five is business owners hate marketing because it takes too long to see results.

Yeah. It can take a while to see the, the results that you’re looking for as far as leads and sales, especially if you’re starting from zero, right? Yeah, it does take a while. There’s no doubt, Edmonton business coach. Anybody who promises you quick results or get rich quick, they’re misleading you more than doing some shady stuff. I’ve just, I’ve seen it too many times where people over promise and under deliver and for us we like to make commitments to our business owner clients and then we work with them to see those things come true. Yeah. So yeah, there’s no magic bullet.

Things take time, good things that you know, you want take time. Just like, you know, your health, your wealth, all those things, they just take that time. There’s no magic bullet. You can’t quicken the pace to the point where it’s instant. You have to build up and build up and build up like a snowball effect. Right? Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That’s 100% true. Um, and for our purposes, like what we do here, we tell people it’s between a six and 12 month process to get you get to get the ball. Some cases it could take longer. Sometimes it could be a little bit less, but we don’t paint unrealistic expectations. Somewhere between six and 12 months is when you start to see some movement in the right direction. Start seeing those leads come in from the Internet and getting good quality leads in the door. So, um, that’s, you know, a big, big hurdle with a lot of companies because when they come to us, in some cases they’re already bleeding, right? And they need help righting the ship right away because they’ve not done things properly or order or they’ve neglected sales and marketing or are they just focused on the wrong things and it’s not producing the results they’re looking for.

So they come to us Edmonton business coach, and they’re desperate thinking that a new website is going to miraculously turn the boat around and they’ll instantaneous, they get a bunch of leads coming in the door. Well, that’s just not reality. I’d like to say, yes, we can do that for you, but that I would be lying to somebody if I said that that’s how it works because it doesn’t, there’s a lot of factors involved in, number one is making sure that the customer is on board with what we’re doing and getting them on the train of getting the Google reviews and creating content. And then we’re getting those thousand words per website page out of that stuff takes time, right? And then we have to build a website and we have to test it, debugging. And there’s a lot of things involved in that and creating different systems and processes to make it work. So yeah, that’s, um, that’s where it’s at.
